What is DIATIC group?

DIATIC Group (Design and Implementation of digital activities) is a community of practice that provides a space for exchanging experiences and knowledge among secondary education science teachers and researchers in didactics of sciences. Group members share similar restlessness about the need to develop an integrated manner the secondary science classes both scientific skills of students and their digital competences. In this way, participating in the Grup DIATIC is an opportunity to design and evaluate educational proposals that integrate the use of ICT and can be useful for teaching and learning sciences.

What have we done?

2012-2013 academic year

The DIATIC group was constituted on 2012-2013 course with high school sciences teachers that were a wide educational experience coming from different educational centers of Catalonia. Some of they came from groups of adaptation and experimentation of the Anglo-Saxon curricula Salters-Horners Advanced Physics and Chemistry, that in our context receive the name of “Física i Química en context”. During the first course DIATIC group members decided to develop teaching and learning science material for ESO with the application of sensors or data loggers. “Immersion“, “Relationship between pressure and temperature“, “A safe bungee jumping jump” were the activities that from this work.

2013-2014 academic year

During the 2013-2014 academic year the work of the DIATIC group focused on the design of 3 didactic sequences of Physics and Chemistry for 4th ESO students of 12 sessions. These 3 units cover a large part of curriculum, dealing with contents such as kinematics, dynamics, waves and sound, and the properties of matter in relation to their internal structure. During last quarter of academic year, the firsts version designed was applied in different centers, evaluating said implementation and performing a first recession of each one. These were not made public.

2014-2015 academic year

In 2014-2015 academic year, DIATIC were continued with implementation of new versions and refinement of  the 3 didactic units designed.  At the same time, DIATC were also designed teachers’ didactic guides, in which they described the competence approach of every sequence. The result of this work was 3 didactic units: “The sounds we hear“, “Everything moves“, “Entering matter

2015-2016 academic year

The activity of the DIACTIC group during the 2015-2016 academic year focused on the reflection and identification of students’ difficulties in competence tests. This work allowed to refine three evaluation test of  every didactic units designed during the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 academic years. At the same time, DIATIC group also exploit other methodologies and teaching proposals, such as new evaluation tools, gamification and project work.

2016-2017 academic year

During this academic year, DIATIC aims to discuss and deepen in how mobile devices can help us to collect and process some data and promote scientific practice among students.  This objective will be concretized in the design of some optimal learning teaching sequences that facilitate the use of mobile devices to collect and processing different data to promote scientific practice in classroom. It is also contemplated to discuss and design evaluation and evaluation tools that are able to collect the learning of the students that use mobile devices for the collection and processing data to promote scientific practice in the classroom.
